Beads in Bezels - Easy Vintage Cuff

Follow Me on Pinterest

The base of this cuff comes from the recent Stamped Leather Bookmark project (seevideo here).

The technique produces such beautiful results and I knew that I wanted to make a cuff bracelet with the extra “bookmark” that I had from the steps outs.

This rectangle bezel from the Spellbinders Media Mixage line is just the size and shape I was looking for. Instead of using resin,  I took a little trip to my bead stash and found these flat back glass beads.

In this how-to jewelry video I show you how you can make a beautiful accessory in less that 15 minutes! Now that’s my kind of project!

In this video I show you how to create a faux pottery look on glass.

The EASY way to emboss leather - Quick how to video

Follow Me on Pinterest

The Easy way to emboss leather

I was so in awe of this technique when I first heard that Spellbinders was sending embossed leather cuff bracelets to the Emmy awards.  I've embossed leather in the past with metal leather stamps and a hammer, but this technique is so stinkin' easy with 3D-M'bossabilities.

In this video, I show you how to make a  leather bookmark - which happens to be a perfect gift for bookworms like my step-daughter Elise.  But, stay tuned to next week's video and I'll show you how to turn this leather bookmark into a bracelet that you'll love!

Make Beautiful Vintage Fabric Flowers - Mixed Media Monday

Follow Me on Pinterest

As an artist, I explore and create many different styles, but the one I keep coming back to, the one that calls my name is the vintage upcycle recycle style.

Ever wonder how to get those ruffle edges on fabric?  Well, in this 2 minute video, I'm going to show you how.

Click here to watch on youtube.

I'm giving away a signed copy of my latest book Creative Ways to Organize your Home - details on how to enter the giveaway are here.  (It's open until January 17, 2014)

For me, the basic shape dies are a staple in my die template collection.  The Spellbinders® Media Mixáge™ Circles Three die templates are among my very favorite.  Even though they are just basic circles – there are so many ways to use the shapes.  In this project, I show you how easy it is to stack them together and create beautiful vintage flowers.  I used them to decorate a small sachet pillow, but you could also create a brooch by just adhering a pin back.  So versatile – enjoy exploring beyond!

Spellbinders Supplies:
MMM-001 Spellbinders® Artisan X-plorer™ Machine
MD1-012 Spellbinders® Media Mixáge™ Circles Three die template
MB1-007 Susan Lenart Kazmer for Spellbinders® Media Mixáge™ Circles Three Bezels
Satin Fabric (I have a champagne color and a deep eggplant color)
Ribbon Organza in coordinating color
Embellishments of choice – such as pearls, twine, lace, broken bits of jewelry, buttons etc.
Vintage Photo
Decorative Paper
Decoupage medium
Needle
Thread (matching color)
Hot glue
Lighter
Pliers
Scissors

  1. Cut several circles of each fabric using the #3 (with #1 being the smallest) circle.
  2. Cut one #3 circle from decorative paper and place into bezel.
  3. Cut out and glue photo into bezel where desired
  4. Stack fabric together alternating light and dark colors and including organza circles between the layers.
  5. Tack with needle and thread
  6. Hold circles with pliers and quickly pass lighter flame over edges.  This will curl the edges of the fabric. (Use caution so as not to catch the fabric on fire or burn your fingers).  Do not hold the flame directly to fabric, simply pass flame over the edges.
  7. Use hot glue to attach pearls inside flowers.
  8. Arrange lace, trims, pearls, etc into a pleasing arrangement.  Use hot glue to secure.

Affix collage to pillow with fabric glue or attach pin back for brooch.

The Best of Mixed Media Monday

Follow Me on Pinterest

As I write this, I'm bracing for the biggest winter storm in several years - at least it will be for the Ozark Mountains in Southwest Missouri.  With the hills and mountains, we hillbillies just don't do well with snow - at least driving anyway.    With 6 inches of snow coming our way and brutal sub zero temperatures, I'm thankful that I have a warm and cozy and creative place to spend my day.

Today, I'm taking a small break from Mixed Media Monday because I'm in the middle of preparing artwork for the Spellbinders CHA Mega booth.  As soon as I can, I'll share all those photos and behind the scenes video.  In celebration of Spellbinders 10 years in creativity, they are hosting a giveaway of mega proportions!  See the sneak peeks of the new product being released on their blog - click here   - (Seriously, folks - there's some awesome stuff to win! So check it out!)

I'm sharing the BEST of Mixed Media Monday - these are my most watched shows and even if you've seen them before, why not watch them again?  I know you'll pick up something new!
